Veijo Pietiläinen returned to Halli upon his retirement. “My childhood and youth here in Halli created a special bond with the community.”
“I was born in the house where I live now. For my studies I chose Southern Finland. That’s where I also worked,” says Veijo Pietiläinen, 76. He returned to Halli in 2003 upon his retirement.
“My childhood and youth spent here created a special bond with the community. Life in Halli has always felt like home, and I never really liked the capital city region.”
Veijo, or Vepi, is a familiar figure to the people of Halli. Since moving back, he has been actively involved in the activities of the local Cultural Heritage Association and is now also a kotiseutuneuvos.
Services concentrated in a small village area
Halli already served as the municipal center during the time when it was part of the Kuorevesi municipality. When the municipality joined the city of Jämsä in the early 2000s, even more services became concentrated in Halli.
“Previously, services were scattered around Kuorevesi, but now they are in a compact area in Halli. There are, among other things, a daycare center, a school, a library, shops and health services.”
Veijo has been following the development of Halli for a long time. According to him, the community has attracted more younger residents than people of his age group. But there is also plenty to do for the seniors, especially through various associations.
“I hope that Halli of the future will be even more vibrant. There are job opportunities and space to live here. The excellence of Halli lies, among other things, in the fact that you can live very close to the city center, spaciously and in your own peace, but in the countryside. We strongly believe that our services will remain at least as good as they are now.”
